Greetings and welcome! This is our daily devotional for November 8th, 2023. Today we continue our study in the Book of Acts in chapter 16 with Paul and Silas exercising their rights as Roman citizens and also the principle of obeying God, rather than men. Thanks for joining us!

A look at "Christian Nationalism" and how it relates to biblical christianity and our roles as believers. How we are to interact with government, society, and authorities as biblical pilgrims on this earth? What does history teach us?

"Civil disobedience" is a far more popular subject these days than "civil obedience." Nevertheless, in this text, Peter shares the heart behind God's command for the Christian's civil obedience.

In the Light of Civil Law, we are to render obedience, but in relation to men under that law, we are to owe to them love. Love of mankind is the root and cause of civil obedience and a deterrent to the wicked as well as a testimony of Christ's work in the believer.

The purpose of civil government and Christ's commanded obedience.

Christians have a complicated relationship with obedience. Those who strive to obey Jesus in everything at all times are often labeled "legalists." Others acts as if obedience is completely optional, since salvation is by grace through faith. Many are neither legalists nor antinomians, but simply pick and choose which commands of Scripture to obey. Who's right? What are we supposed to obey? And how can we do that?

Justification has much to do with the law, and it's critical to understand what the law can and cannot do. In these seventeen verses of Holy Scripture, the Holy Spirit teaches us that manmade hope for deliverance must fail, because even the troubles of this world are part of God's design to bring forth the lasting fruit of His chosen people.
