The birth of John the Baptist foreshadowed the birth of Christ, in order to bring sinners back to God. Eagerly desiring the arrival of a child. (v.5-17) Humbly being corrected by the Lord. Since God gave us His Word, we accept with certainty the truth about the coming of Jesus. We accept what The Spirit wrote about Jesus, not what others have said about Him. (v.1) We accept how good, orderly, and sufficient God's Word is to inform us about the coming of Jesus. (v.2-3) We accept with certainty of the things God revealed to us. (v.4) How did your beliefs get formed about Jesus and Christmas? About whom are the 1st 5 books of the Bible? Genesis 21:1-7 teaches us about the birth of Isaac, which points us to the birth of Jesus.

What difference does Christ make in the heart of a believer? Matthew 5:6 prepares us for the morning sermon on the Lord's Day. In this verse of Holy Scripture, the Holy Spirit teaches us that Christ changes the objects of a believer's hunger and thirst, while feeding the believer and guaranteeing his full satisfaction.

Longing for Christ and His kingdom includes profound grief for a time, but they to whom the Spirit gives this longing are blessed already in the sure hope of perfect, eternal blessedness

As we gather for worship today we see and give thankful responses by taking up Isaiah chapter 12. We are thankful for the glorious grace of salvation in Jesus Christ . Ruth 4:11-13 11 Then all the people who were at the gate and the elders said, "We are witnesses. May the Lord make the woman, who is coming into your house, like Rachel and Leah, who together built up the house of Israel. May you act worthily in Ephrathah and be renowned in Bethlehem, 12 and may your house be like the house of Perez, whom Tamar bore to Judah, because of the offspring that the Lord will give you by this young woman." 13 So Boaz took Ruth, and she became his wife. And he went in to her, and the Lord gave her conception, and she bore a son.

When God spoke through John the Baptist, it had been 400 years of silence from a prophet. Some might think he has been silent for the last 2,000 years. But God has NOT gone silent. He continues to raise his voice in the wilderness through the preaching of the Gospel. He uses men born of his Spirit unto this calling. Men who are made for this purpose by God. Men who are sent of God to declare so great a salvation revealed in the person and work of Jesus Christ. He is our great boast and glory. This world needs Christ, and we are sent "to make ready a people prepared for the Lord" (Luke 1:17).
