What is the first distinction between the people of the Lord and the people of the world? Leviticus 18 prepares us for the evening sermon on the Lord's Day. In these thirty verses of Holy Scripture, the Holy Spirit teaches us that one great difference between the people of the Lord and the people of the world is that the Lord's people are committed to purity in nakedness and marriage.
Not giving SELF what SELF wants requires love to Christ coupled with devotion to Christ and a strength and desire that none of us possesses naturally! God must give us everything to walk with Him, or else we fail!
If you're "IN CHRIST" you know the danger of allowing SELF to have his or her way! If you would deny YOURSELF, you must walk CONTRARY to YOURSELF! If you would DO THIS, you must be led and made strong in this opposition against self by the Holy Spirit!
In another type or shadow of the life of Jesus in the account of Joseph in Genesis, we see them both falsely accused and arrested but also both maintaining Biblical character throughout.

It is amazing how our thoughts affect our demeanor. Our thoughts can lead us to anger, sadness, bitterness, joy, peace, patience, etc. Think back last night. When you woke up, what were you thinking? Was it a good thought? A song? A nightmare? A worry? We spend much of our time trying to eat right, exercise, sleep enough, work more, etc. But how much time to we really spend thinking and praying to God? Doing things for others? Or are we just thinking about ourselves?
The double mind is a constant threat. Someone described Dawson Trotman as being "frighteningly direct" at times. Jesus was at times also "astonishingly: direct: Matthew 7:28,29. And so is James. It takes frighteningly direct medicine to cure the double mind.
"But he refused and said to his master's wife, 'Behold, because of me my master has no concern about anything in the house, and he has put everything that he has in my charge. He is not greater in this house than I am, nor has he kept back anything from me except you, because you are his wife. How then can I do this great wickedness and sin against God?'" (Genesis 39:8–9)
