The same author with the same audience and the same aim as in his Gospel begins his second volume, dealing with the continued acts of the risen Jesus by his Spirit through his apostles. Luke sets out his work and its scope, both connecting with his Gospel and continuing from it, showing that there was no ceasing of Christ's doing and teaching with his death, but rather—by his proven resurrection and subsequent ascension—he continues to do his Father's will as the kingdom comes.

"And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ:" (Eph 3:9)

Greetings and welcome! This is our daily devotional for February 14, 2023. Today we start a new study on the Acts of the Apostles. Or should it be called the Acts of the Holy Spirit? It doesn't matter what you call the book of Acts, its message is as pertinent to us today as it was to the early church some 2000 years ago. Thanks for joining us!

Pastor Michael Willard opens a series in the Gospel according to Luke. In the first message from Luke 2:41-52, we see Jesus demonstrate His love for God by prioritizing His relationship and commitment. Listen and be challenged.

The Book of Acts was written by Luke as was the Gospel of Luke. Luke was a Doctor and a fellow labourer with the Apostle Paul. Luke wrote his Gospel and the Book of Acts both to a man called Theophilus. Luke in his Gospel wanted Theophilus to know about the life, the death, the resurrection and the ascension of the Lord Jesus. When Luke wrote the Book of Acts he wanted to tell Theophilus about the beginnings and expansion of Christianity after Jesus had died. Just as Luke found a Theophilus in his life to instruct in the Lord, so should every Christian seek to disciple others whilst there is still time.

We kick off our exposition of Luke with an introductory sermon examining Luke's prologue and his purpose in writing.

The Gospel writer, Luke, did not know Jesus when Jesus walked this earth. Luke is not an Apostle and is not even Jewish. So who is he, and why does he have the credibility to write a Gospel account that we can trust? This introduction to a sermon series in the Gospel of Luke, seeks to answer those questions and more.

Sometimes, when you can get bogged down in working through the details of a big project...so much so that you begin to lose focus on the "joy that is set before you." So, it is when studying the great themes and books of the Scripture. As you are drawn further and further in to the details, and as you begin to understand and appreciate more of the background, you can lose sight of the big picture. At times like that, it is helpful to step back and look at the big picture again. Then, the grandeur of the big picture is even greater as the colors you have discovered in the close study of different sections can be seen in its rightful perspective, and the entire picture is seen in even greater glory. Such is the plan for today. We have been looking in very close detail to chapter 12. Now, let's take a step back and remember what Luke is doing in this letter to the Most Excellent Theophilus.
