Sometimes, when you can get bogged down in working through the details of a big project...so much so that you begin to lose focus on the "joy that is set before you." So, it is when studying the great themes and books of the Scripture. As you are drawn further and further in to the details, and as you begin to understand and appreciate more of the background, you can lose sight of the big picture.
At times like that, it is helpful to step back and look at the big picture again. Then, the grandeur of the big picture is even greater as the colors you have discovered in the close study of different sections can be seen in its rightful perspective, and the entire picture is seen in even greater glory.
Such is the plan for today. We have been looking in very close detail to chapter 12. Now, let's take a step back and remember what Luke is doing in this letter to the Most Excellent Theophilus.
