In John 17:6–19, we have part two of a three-part series on the High Priestly prayer with Jesus the Good Shepherd teaching His disciples how to pray. Mr. Paul Tamras encourages us to delight in Christ's prayer and teaches us to imitate Christ's prayer: praying selflessly, focusing on the truth, praying out loud, and focusing on spirituality. "I have given them your word, and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. I do not ask that you take them out of the world, but that you keep them from the evil one."

The truth of the Bible's wisdom literature—and by reasonable extension, the whole canon of scripture—has its origin in God. He graciously communicates it to us through the process of inspiration. The purpose of the truth so given is to guide a sinner to Christ and instruct him in obedience. This revealed word is not only useful but sufficient. No book, even the most highly-regarded Christian work, is necessary for salvation and obedience. God's word is authoritative and sufficient.

In our sermon continuing our exposition of Paul's letter to Titus this week we will examine what the character and lives of those leading the churches of Jesus Christ are supposed to be and look like. In this study we will see what a blameless family looks like and why pastors are also called "overseers" and "stewards." Does the private and personal lives of our leaders' truly matter, be they the President of a country, a Fortune 500 CEO, or the head of a local church? Does a church leaders' marriage and the behavior of his children play a role in determining if he is fit for the ministerial office? Are fathers responsible for the salvation of their children or their conduct once they leave the home? We pray you'll join us for our sermon "The Pastoral Office (Part III)" as we seek to honor God and answer these questions biblically from our in-depth study of Titus 1:5-9!

Calvary Baptist Church - Psalm 34:17-19; Psalm 46
We have no reason to fear or doubt! The good shepherd never lost a sheep - Death is only a doorway to a believer!

The main idea presented here is that "Yahweh himself is coming to his people." This coming...
I. Is to be boldly announced.
II. Will be with power and authority.
III. Will be as the tender Shepherd of his flock.

"Encounter God's Truth" brings you timeless truths for changing times.
Dr. John Whitcomb spent much of his life teaching the Old Testament. It was really quite remarkable, then, that in his later years he devoted much of his energy to preparing messages on the New Testament book of Acts. We're so glad that he did, however, because now we have those recordings to benefit from—and to share with you here on "Encounter God's Truth."
So join with us now as we continue in Acts 13 and Volume Five in our study called "Acts: Witness of the Early Church."
Whitcomb Ministries declares with certainty that God's Word is true from the beginning to the end.
As host Wayne Shepherd shares, we bring you this teaching with gratitude to our friends at Middletown Bible Church in Middletown, Conn., where Dr. Whitcomb first delivered it before the Independent Fundamental Bible Conference.

John 10:1-6 The Good Shepherd comes to call and lead his sheep.
The Way of the Shepherd vv. 1-2
The Voice of the Shepherd vv. 3-4
The Leading of the Shepherd vv. 4-5

This week we continue our exposition of Paul's letter to Titus, focusing on Titus 1:6. Last week we saw that elders (pastors) are a gift of Christ to His church, whose function in part is to help the church be well-ordered. But what type of Christian can lead the church? That is the question we will start to answer in today's message. Do the same standards we expect of our leaders also apply to other Christians? Do we tend to create rules or qualifications that aren't found in Scripture? Can women be pastors? Does the way one's marriage and own home life are lived out impact whether or not he should be leading in God's house? Is marriage or having children even a mandatory requirement to shepherd a church? Join us for our sermon "The Pastoral Office (Part II)" as we seek to answer these questions and more!

Musing on the benedictions that drop from the lips of a faithful man, and in anticipation of his own absence from the flock at the Tabernacle, Spurgeon turns to the words with which Paul closes his letter to the Romans: "The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen." With an eye to the affection which underpins the apostolic blessing, he dives into the substance of the particular favour which he enjoins upon God's people, musing upon the grace which is in and through and with Christ, and some of the dimensions of it. This is the bulk of his treatment. More briefly he considers the people who receive the blessing, and how and why we so need the grace of our Lord. Finally, and very warmly, he surveys the sweet results to be anticipated when such a blessing rests upon the beloved of God. Throughout the sermon, and especially having given himself so largely to the first section, one has the sense of a full heart operating under holy constraint, much material and true pastoral affection forced from the heart through the narrow aperture of the preacher's mouth under pressure of time. It helps us to consider not just how we pray, and with what sense and desire, but also what we can anticipate when the servants of God call down the mercies of the Lord's on our needy heads.

Final sermon in the series on Psalm 23.
A Place of Safety
A Place of Satisfaction

Having concluded our exposition of the introductory greeting we now begin to turn our attention to the body of the Letter to Titus starting with Titus 1:5-9. Specifically, we will focus on verse 5 this week as it pertains to the church being an orderly institution, just as our God is an orderly God. We will look not only at how this applies to church polity, but also why qualified pastors are so vital to ensuring the order and well-being of the local church and shepherding the flock of Christ.
