Numbers 31 continues to describe the last days of Moses as the Lord commands that he destroy the Midianites. As will become typical, Israel does NOT follow orders until they are rebuked. We also deal with the accusation that God is "mean" and bad for killing off all but the innocent children and women.

In this episode, Dr. Maynard Koerner discusses what exactly it is that God has done so that we can be saved as he features the first and most beloved question and answer in the entire Heidelberg Catechism while also touching on the Gospel of Christianity compared to the philosophies of other world religions.
How amazing that religion can make some people so blind. God healed this poor man who had been on a bed for 38 years and he got up and walked and carried his bed away, but the first thought in the minds of these blind religious Jews was that he was not supposed to carry his bed on the Sabbath. Jesus never, ever violated the law of God, but these people who accused Him were as empty of the grace of God as anyone could be. Jesus Christ came full of grace and truth, the perfect balance. We need to be like Jesus.
In Luke 10 a Lawyer comes to Jesus with a great question.
Luke 10.25 And, behold, a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted him, saying, Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?
Have you ever asked that question?... What shall I do to inherit eternal life?
This Lawyer knew that life didn't end at the grave and he also knew God's commandements
All of us from the moment we are born will live for eternity and when you pass away in this life you will either live in a glorious eternity with God's people or you will live in an eternity under the Judgement and wrath of God.
You've got to settle that question now if you are not saved, don't wait till eternity.
I want you to notice that the Lord Jesus refers this man back to the Law.
The Law doesn't save anyone but the Law should bring conviction. There is no conversion without conviction and God uses the Law to convict us of our sin.
In order for anyone to be saved they must be convicted of their sin and God's Word brings conviction!
Now the Lord Jesus in answer to the Lawyer's question, "Who is my neighbour" tells the Lawyer about the Good Samaritan.
The Priest and the Levite had the opportunity to be a good influence in bad world but they did nothing. Now for the Lawyer to hear from Jesus about a Samaritan being the compassionate hero of the Story would have been quiet a shock to the Lawyer. We can assume that the Lawyer was a Jew because he knew the Word of God.
Yet in this story it is not the Priest or Levite who are the heroes.
The Samaritan's love saw the wounded man. Love not only sees him but love goes to him. Love has compassion on him. Love binds his wounds. Love pays for recovery of the man.
In our study, the apostles lead by Peter preach the facts of Jesus being murder by death on the Cross and the reality of His bodily resurrection which "cuts to the heart" of the leaders of Israel. We see their initial reaction being tamed by the worldly (and only partially accurate) wisdom of Gamaliel. But the apostles are still severely persecuted even as they praise God for being worthy to suffer shame for His name.

Although it is not unusual for God to extend His salvation through families, grace does not run in the blood. The native tendency of fallen flesh is for family religion to decay. However, God has frequently restored the lost spiritual treasures of a family; after the idolatry of Terah comes Abraham...
Just as any reasonable and logical thinking man or woman sees the reality of the Fall and Flood accounts in Scripture, these were ancient prophecies which were also fulfilled in ancient times.
And the same is true with the Tower of Babel. The actual historical evidence fits the Biblical account (as well as the DNA evidence!) and is Evidence that the Bible itself is strong Evidence for God.

What makes the evangelical movement distinct from simply being Protestant? With many young adults attracted to high-church traditions, we seek to understand the history, the nature, and the value of the evangelical movement in Great Britain and America.
In the building of Babel, there is much more being manifested than a city and tower being established. In the few words recorded about this effort, we see the precepts of all flesh. Their motivation was to build a lasting city for a defense against any and all judgments of God. They sought a name to glory in, believing they could save themselves by their fleshly works. This is the false religion of the flesh, which is spread over all the earth. It is the language of confusion, which Christ delivers from by his blood redemption. And therefore, he sends forth his Spirit and gospel to call his people out of that vain hope of the flesh.
