Isaiah 50:1-11-- A portrait of the coming Redeemer

Job's suffering causes him to respond in numerous ways--some good, some not so good. However, above all, Job's worldview that his Redeemer lives and will vindicate him overrides every circumstance. In contrast, the worldviews of his "comforters" cause them to counsel Job in accordance with their worldview. We all have biases (worldviews) that impact what we do and moreover what we teach others. Pay attention and make sure that worldview is congruent with Jehovah's!

"Then they cried unto the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them out of their distresses." (Psalms 107:6)

Heidelberg Q. 14 Can another creature—any at all—pay this debt for us? A.No. To begin with, God will not punish any other creature for what a human is guilty of. Furthermore, no mere creature can bear the weight of God's eternal wrath against sin and deliver others from it. Q. 15 What kind of mediator and deliverer should we look for then? A.One who is a true and righteous man, yet more powerful than all creatures, that is, one who is also true God.

In Isaiah 49:15–50:3, we hear Yahweh give 4 promises in response to Zion's lament (v. 14) that prove they will not be put to shame if they wait on Him (v. 23c). I. Though you fear being forgotten, I will never forget you (49:15–16). II. Though you fear being forsaken, I will bless you with many grandchildren … A. who will adorn you as a bride (49:17–18), B. who will overflow your devastated land (49:19–20), C. who will surprise you with their presence (49:21), D. who will be delivered by your enemies (49:22–23). III. Though you fear being overpowered, I will overpower your oppressors (49:24–26). IV. Though you fear being divorced and your children sold into slavery for your sin, I will redeem you through my power (50:1–3).

The LORD God opened His armory in order to exact vengeance against Babylon for destroying His temple. God the Warrior opened His armory of wrath and vengeance. (v.21-32) God the Strong Redeemer freed His people with a sword from an enemy who wouldn't let God's people go (like Egypt all over again!) (v.33-39) God the Destroyer will demolish severely (like Sodom and Gomorrah all over again!) (v.40-46) God's temple was destroyed; when will He act? What is in God's armory? In the morning we will take up Ruth 3 and see the beginning of redemption. This redemption for Ruth and Naomi previews a more lasting and perfect redemption. Come and be richly encouraged at what God has done. In Isaiah 49:1-13, the 2 nd Servant Song, we are shown 2 speeches describing the mission of Yahweh's Servant. I. The Servant speaks to the ends of the earth: A. Yahweh called me to be True Israel (vs. 1-3). B. Yahweh is My justice and reward: I trust in Him (v. 4). C. Yahweh commissioned me: To bring Jacob's remnant back to Him (vs. 5-6a). To be a light to the nations (v. 6b). II. Yahweh speaks to His Servant: A. Nations will despise you, but I will bring them to their knees because I am faithful and chose you (v. 7).

Are we wiser now? Have we surpassed the teachings of the Bible even believing updating God's Word would make it relevant for the time we live in?
