Christ Jesus is the record of God. He embodies and fulfills the gracious will and purpose of God to save a people for himself. Christ was sent of the Father to justify and sanctify his people. This he accomplished through the cross. Because of Christ's accomplished redemption, the Lord reveals three powerful witnesses made effectual in the hearts of his people. John calls these witnesses in the earth, the Spirit, the water and the blood. These three agree in one that Jesus of Nazareth is the Christ of God. He died, was buried and raised again by the power of God. These three witnesses describe the record of God powerfully revealed in his people by the Spirit, who are blessed to receive the witness of the scriptures and the gospel preached by the blood-redeemed church. You that believe, do so by the grace of God. Through these witnesses, God continues to reveal the accomplished salvation of Christ in the hearts of his chosen, redeemed elect.

Epaphras established a church in Colossae. False teachers came along in Epaphras' absence and began to turn people away from Christ. "You believe in Jesus? Well, that's a good start. But Jesus isn't enough to get you all the way," these heretics said. Paul's exhorts those in Colossians (and us) to remember they are complete in Christ, that Christ is the head of all principalities and powers. They have no need of another or substitute mediator. Man's opinion comes and goes. It is not the same as the immoveable, unshakeable, unchanging Word of God. These are only some of the reasons that the Word of God is reliable.

The Jews at Jerusalem sent Pharisees to ask John who is was. This passage of Scripture is his response to them.

1 John 5:9 If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he hath testified of his Son. 10 He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son. 11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. 13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

1 John 5:6 This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth. 7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. 8 And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.

Embracing the Foundation "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth…" Genesis 1 Before feeling an overwhelming need to explain it — I encourage everyone to SIMPLY EMBRACE it by faith. How? By Believing and trusting it, as it is given. It's the foundation to everything we know, can know and enjoy in this life and the one to come. Every aspect of triumph and trouble can be traced back to the first 12 chapters of Genesis. When we embrace it as it is unveiled, over man's word, ideas and opinions on life, then we'll throughly enjoy the Creator, more and more, and the revelation He's given us, as we explore it and explain what we see and celebrate. Genesis 1:1 is a summary statement "in the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." We have to stop looking at it in the sense that we go around witnessing to others about Jesus, but that we are witnesses of His. We see what has been done and said by Him, we can attest to He is Lord and Master, that there's but one God, besides Him there's no other God.
