The ministry of reconciliation involves calling sinners back to God on the basis of Christ's atoning sacrifice. This means dying in Christ and so living no longer for self but to him. So the apostle is able to say that if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation: old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. This involves a clear statement about everyone who answers the description; a sweet situation of being "in Christ"; a new identity as a new creation in Christ; a fresh start as old things pass away; and, a bright life as all things become and remain new.

This lesson was taught in the adult Bible class at Grace Baptist of Ruston. It is part of an ongoing verse by verse study through the epistle of Ephesians.

This message deals with the REALITY that all those "born of God", those who will faithfully and dogmatically set forth God's glorious Gospel, will be considered by the "WORLD" to be their enemies. In spite of this reality, those "born of God" take comfort in knowing that God's message is effectual to all those the Lord has purposed to save.

10-01-2023 Forgiveness in Action

In this chapter we reach the climax of the drama that has been unfolding between Joseph and his brothers. Joseph finally reveals his identity in a flood of tears and reconciliation takes place in a most wonderful way.

Pastor David continues preaching in the book of Genesis in Chapter 43 as Joseph's Brothers Return to Egypt.

Pastor walks his children through Westminster Shorter Catechism question 105—especially explaining how grace forgives us, makes us into forgivers, and makes us desire and delight in forgiveness. Q105. What do we pray for in the fifth petition? In the fifth petition, which is, And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors, we pray that God, for Christ's sake, would freely pardon all our sins; which we are the rather encouraged to ask, because by His grace we are enabled from the heart to forgive others.

That God has reconciled you to himself in the death and resurrection of Jesus, is the heart of the gospel. This reconcilation was applied to you when you believed, but even your believing was the result of that prior work of God the Spirit upon your heart, mind, and will we call regeneration--being born again. This is cause for great assurance and rejoicing for in no manner is reconcilation something left to you, but an accomplished fact grounded in the death and resurrection of Christ: "Now is the acceptable time . . . now is the day of salvation."

In these two chapters we reach the climax in the drama between Joseph and his estranged brothers. In chapter 42 we saw the awakening of conscience in Joseph's brothers (See 42:21, 28). In these chapters we see a deepening of the work of conviction in their hearts through the tests Joseph wisely orchestrated. Before Joseph attempted reconciliation with his brothers, he clearly wanted to see evidence of a change of mind (repentance) in his brothers' lives. Through this account we are reminded that conviction of sin and confession of sin (a spirit of repentance) are necessary pre-requisites for genuine reconciliation not only in human relationships but most importantly, in the sinner's relationship to God Almighty.

The only source of lasting earthly joy is to know God through Christ. Christ revealed the Father's glory, so we can be reconciled to the Father. He came to us so the world might know and see the Father's love for His Son and His love eternal love for people.

This is the 3rd message in this verse by verse series on 2 Corinthians. The subject is the glory of God as manifested through Christ's accomplished work as the God sent Messiah.

Peter is not talking about an entirely new heavens and earth which will replace the ones that were annihilated at the Second Coming. Christ came, the first time, to save the world. A clarification of misunderstood terms like fire, elements, and new heavens and earth will help us to see what Peter is actually describing.
