What We Open… Blessings... I pray this message will find you in a place where your heart is tender and eager to be fed and encouraged. There are three things Paul did consistently and courageously. He Opened His Mouth He Opened His Bible He Opened His Life Yes, as simple as this sounds, is as simple as it is! Paul, simply but significantly, was a man who opened his mouth for Christ, and then he opened the Scriptures to teach and pointed them to Christ, and then he opened his life to ridicule, rejection, scrutiny, and as an example to share how this same Jesus interrupted and transformed his life. That's it... a man who opened things! And we find that as he opened these three things, before the people, the Lord opened hearts and heaven to those who were poor in spirit, perishing in their sin, and needed Jesus to rescue them. Glory, hallelujah, and as Paul opened...God opened every needful thing — that Paul couldn't open — that was absolutely necessary — for Him to fulfill his assignments. This is how it reads: "And Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three sabbath days reasoned [He opened his Mouth] with them out of the Scriptures [He opened his Bible], opening and alleging [He opened his Life], that Christ had to suffer, and rise again from the dead; and that this Jesus, whom I preach unto you, is Christ." (Acts 17:2-3) Opening up our lives is a very important part of the whole. It's an essential part of the three things he did. Let me explain. The word "alleging" or "demonstrating" means to place alongside. Paul used his life and other testimonies to cast alongside the truth he just opened up. The Father sits upon the throne. He's the covenant keeping holy God, who sends out preachers because he loves his church. Worship is our response to the gospel - with life and lip.

The exhortation of the writer of Hebrews is that we must hold fast to the profession of our faith and not forsake the assembly of ourselves together to worship centered around the hearing of God's Word.

erhaps you have heard the expression a call to preach or a call to the ministry. Exactly what does this mean? How does it work? This podcast looks at a few examples of men called in the New Testament time and to two quotes of statements from Paul on the called ministry of the Word. It begins with Paul's account of his own call to preach God's truth to the Gentiles. Then to his younger friend Timothy who has also been called to the work of an Overseer, bishop, pastor, teacher elder. These are all synonymously to refer to men called to preach-teach-exhort the Word, the inspired writings of the Old and New Testament to people especially within the assemblies, congregations to enable God's people for the work of ministry.

The Gospel preached elicits a response. For some the message of Christ Jesus is a welcomed blessing compared to the miserable religions of the World which demand performance. For others the message of Christ brings contempt and opposition. Here we see that the response of the Jews to the message of Christ led to the message of Christ being brought to the Gentiles.

Ezekiel was called to be God's watchman. His job was not easy, but it was simply: He was to sound the warning of impending danger. In this case the coming danger is the judgment of God himself. This watchman metaphor teaches us that God is still issuing warnings in our day, to us and through us.

The gospel is the only message of salvation. It declares God's righteousness, and must be preached for every aspect of spiritual growth. We are not ashamed to preach it, though it cost us. It's the singular focus of our lives.

Christ Jesus is the record of God. He embodies and fulfills the gracious will and purpose of God to save a people for himself. Christ was sent of the Father to justify and sanctify his people. This he accomplished through the cross. Because of Christ's accomplished redemption, the Lord reveals three powerful witnesses made effectual in the hearts of his people. John calls these witnesses in the earth, the Spirit, the water and the blood. These three agree in one that Jesus of Nazareth is the Christ of God. He died, was buried and raised again by the power of God. These three witnesses describe the record of God powerfully revealed in his people by the Spirit, who are blessed to receive the witness of the scriptures and the gospel preached by the blood-redeemed church. You that believe, do so by the grace of God. Through these witnesses, God continues to reveal the accomplished salvation of Christ in the hearts of his chosen, redeemed elect.

One of the most interesting characters in the first section of the Bible know as the Law is Balaam. He is a prophet of God who on his way to try and curse the children of Israel enroute to Canaan had an actual conversation with his donkey! This was God's supernatural intervention to press upon Balaam his absolute need to speak over the Hebrews only the words he would put in his mouth. (Numbers 22-24) Even after Balaams blessing not cursing the people he found a way to get the money from Balak by advising him how to lure the men of Israel into idolatry by using the women of Moab. Numbers 25:1-3. Numbers 31:16 Behold, these, on Balaam's advice, caused the people of Israel to act treacherously against the Lord in the incident of Peor, and so the plague came among the congregation of the Lord. 2 Peter 2:15-16 Forsaking the right way, they have gone astray. They have followed the way of Balaam, the son of Beor, who loved gain from wrongdoing, but was rebuked for his own transgression; a speechless donkey spoke with human voice and restrained the prophet's madness. Revelation 2:14 But I have a few things against you: you have some there who hold the teaching of Balaam, who taught Balak to put a stumbling block before the sons of Israel, so that they might eat food sacrificed to idols and practice sexual immorality. Matt. 16:26 Jesus words For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?

Ninety-Three year old Alwyn Williams speaks at the Newcastle Baptist Tabernacle about the Welsh Revival. Alwyn's father saw the effects of revival, whilst working as a miner in the United Kingdom in the beautiful country of Wales. "Wilt thou not revive us again: that thy people may rejoice in thee? Shew us thy mercy, O Lord, and grant us thy salvation" (Psalm 85.6-7)
