What can the most controversial passage in Acts teach us about contextualization? A lot. Proper contextualization for Christians is altering the method by which the gospel is communicated in order to achieve greater understanding and acceptance without altering the message in any way. Through examining whether of not Paul sinned by participating in the vows of the four men in Jerusalem we can gain better understanding as to what are the bridges we should and shouldn't cross if we are going to effectively reach our sphere of influence for Christ.
And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.
For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. (Luke 11:9-10)
When our need as sinners is felt, then the Lord directs us where to go and how to obtain what we have felt need of.
1/ A direction as to how we are to obtain what we need from the Lord
2/ An assurance of the success of this method

"The 16th Century Protestant Reformation was a powerful 'Back
To The Bible' movement. The Bible which had been held
captive by the apostate Papal church was now set free.
"That book which had been chained to walls, kept in an ancient
unknown language was now in the hands of the common
people and in their common tongue."
Jim Snyder, elder at Christ Reformed Church delivers on the
foundational "Sola" of the Christian faith and draws on W. Gary

Paul gives 3 marks for Godly ministry:
The gospel is the good news of what God has done by His Son to redeem us.
Even though motive is wrong, God can still work. True ministers use
truth. The right motives please God.
Attitude and Actions
Paul's confidence lays in God.. He had boldness in declaring Gods truth. He has gentleness and he had sacrifice.
He was humble,

And Jesus, when he came out, saw much people, and was moved with compassion toward them, because they were as sheep not having a shepherd: and he began to teach them many things.

4/ A vital question - has the Lord begun to teach you and me?
Evil often looks like a great opportunity. Satan is transformed into an angel of light. With counterfeits all around, how are we to discern what is true? The answer lies in II Peter 2– a three-part test of false teachers that examines their message, methods, and motives.
Worldly philosophy, politics and false religious systems of thought that even implicitly advocate for obtaining righteousness through various approaches, methods and belief in our own ability to be good is one of the beginning issues of Jim Snyder's continuing series in the book of Ephesians.
Does Jesus tell us to go, but leave it to us how we make disciples once we get there? Or does he not only command us to make disciples, but also tell us what to do in obedience to Him? Because Jesus is Lord of the church, we must carry out His mission His way if we are to be faithful to His Great Commission and make disciples of all nations.
