Students must hear the words of their teachers in order to learn. In the same way, you must hear the words of Jesus in order to be his apprentice. Knowing God's Word and being shaped by God's Word is an absolutely essential practice of following Jesus. This message explores four ways to read the Bible in order to have the well-rounded approach of a true apprentice.
As we gather in the morning we will finish our look at the "end times", last days by finding encouragement from 1 Thessalonians 5.1-11. This text helps us look at the times we live in from an honest, truthful perspective. As we view reality and see God's power to save us we find great encouragement. This encouragement is not "fake" and does not ignore reality, but helps us find real comfort in Jesus Christ during these last days. Be in church Sunday morning for this rich text! Scripture Reading: 1 Thessalonians 4.13 – 5.11
Text: 1 Thessalonians 5.1-11
Message: "End-Times Words of Comfort and Edification"
Theme: The facts about His return, known and practiced, bring us edifying comfort
The knowledge needed in this life comes form Scripture, not world news
That biblical knowledge must direct our behavior or we will be lost
This knowledge gives us comfort whether we live or die
In verse 15 we hear Paul saying that he would not cease to pray for the believers in Ephesus. He would not cease to give thanks for them. He would make mention of them in his prayers. What is it that he was praying to the Father for? He was praying for a couple of things which are very important to us who are here today, as well. 1st of all – He prays that the Father would give to them a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him. And 2nd – He prays that they would know what was the hope of God's calling them in salvation.
Paul is saying the same thing to us here this morning. He would have each of us to know that God would have us to become righteous and holy in terms of our living to His glory. He would not have any of us simply to live to ourself. So, I pray that we will humble ourselves now, to receive these profound truths which are found in the apostle's prayers, as I open them up for you.
I'm 2 Peter we have are given Peter's final recorded words in the Bible. Are we living up to God's expectations for our life. Whether you have been save a week or 50 years plus, God expects his children to grow. Are growing in the knowledge of the Lord? Are you growing in grace? Are you more involved now than you were a year ago or 20 years ago? If not, then why not? Does your life reflect God's Glory?
2 Peter 3:18 " But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen."
In verse 14 Paul speak so highly of this Roman church, and it should be our thought and concern that we too should be seen by others and spoken highly of, especially among our own brothers and sisters in Christ.
