In Isaiah 44:9-23, we are shown 2 components of idolatry and those who make idols.
I. The reality of idolatry and idol makers is full of irony and folly.
A. Idol makers delight in their work and expect profit, but they only gain
open shame (vs. 9-11).
B. Idol makers require tools (vs. 12, 13) and their strong arm fails (v. 12).
C. Idol makers create in their own image (v. 13).
D. Idol makers depend on trees created and sustained by God (v. 14).
E. Idol makers worship God's gifts rather than God Himself (vs. 15-17).
F. Idol makers think they see and understand but God has shut their hearts
and eyes, so they have no wisdom (vs. 18-20).
II. The consequences of idolatry and idol makers must be remembered by God's
people, for Yahweh says:
A. You are my servant, and I will not forget you (v. 21).
B. I have blotted out your sin (v. 22a-b).
C. You must repent if you commit idolatry (v. 22c).
D. Even creation sings because God's glory is displayed in His salvation
(v. 23).
