Our Creator God gives each human being opportunities in life, our minds, time, and energy. What do we do with these scarce and precious resources? Christ urged us not to invest in this life but for eternity, where moth, rust and thieves cannot take our treasure from us.

As good stewards of the assets the Lord entrusts us, part of our responsibility is to invest to prepare for the future and help others. We must follow biblical investment principles to guard against the sins of greed, pride, envy, and foolish ignorance that often accompany investing activities. These include diligent planning, consulting a multitude of counselors (including a prudent, goldy wife), diversifying ("give a portion to seven, and also to eight"), and exercising careful management. Investments, unlike savings, are undertaken with long-term goals in mind, especially retirement. While preparing for retirement, we must follow the Levitical example in the book of Numbers. First, retirement is legitimate. After decades of strenuous work, it is proper to rest. Retirement is a form of a sabbath. However, second, we must guard against the modern idea of retirement: no work, all play. Returning to Numbers chapter 8, after the Levites retire from strenuous work, we see in verse 26 that they still work, just with a lighter load. The hours may be shorter, the work different, and the pay lower or nonexistent, yet the Lord still has work for us to do in our "golden" years.

2 Timothy 4:6-8 (KJV) For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. 7 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: 8 Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.

Because we have been redeemed by Christ and made alive, we are to live not like world, but Spirit filled lives, making the best use of our time, as we live godly lives in a dark world, for His glory.

As Jesus long-delays His coming, He teaches accountability to improve on those things He has given us for the kingdom.

IN this message, we see the encouragement of Paul to be faithful in being a steward of the mysteries of God.

The word "persuaded" is one that symbolized and described Paul. He was persuaded of who the Lord was and wanted to persuade others to follow Christ. Are we persuaded of the same truths that Paul was?

Learn the lesson from the scoundrel in the parable: Invest your Master's money in that which will pay eternal dividends! We all know where the "stuff mart" is. It is online! With a few mouse clicks, someone will bring boxes of stuff to your door. When people died, we use to need 6 strong men to carry them into church to do their funeral. When people die today, we need 6 strong men and several 30-yard dumpsters just to clean the junk out of their house. Jesus advises us to make a better investment. His advice is contrary to every impulse of a consumer culture, because it is supernatural. He tells us to use our money to make friends that will last forever!

Living by faith in Christ means investing, risking, and serving God whole-heartedly, while trusting Him with the results. Sermon Outline: I. Taking risks, not knowing the plans of God (v. 1-6). II. Sober choices, knowing the certain end of men (v. 7-10).

A challenge from our Lord to live out our faith in this life by investing in eternity rather than the temporary things of this world.
