Abimelech relied on worldly and immoral ways to obtain power, but the weight of the Crown upon his head was to lead him to his doom.

Gideon duplicates the ephod of the high priest to abide in his own city which leads to personal and national decline.

Gideon faces challenges and difficulties during his pursuit of the Midianites, but his a model of perseverance, wisdom, humility and faith.

The Word of God is critical to the perseverance of His children. Here in Daniel 8 we read of Daniel's second vision, the foretelling of historical events, and ultimately how the word of God helps His people press on. This passage causes us to ask: "Does ancient history make a difference? If it does, what difference does it make to Christians today?"

Gideon had no reason to boast, but also no reason to fear.

Gideon seeks the assurance of the LORD at every stage of his calling and is rewarded. As the tribes battle the Midianites we see essential features of spiritual warfare.

As the Midianites descend as a swarm upon the Israelites, Gideon is visited by the LORD and given authentication regarding his calling as judge.

We dig into two phrases in Col 1:11. The first is "strengthened with all power". We look at several passages to get a good idea of what scripture communicates about the source of the believers strength. The second phrase is "according to His glorious might". We look at a few verses that show the strength of God in carrying out His will and working for our good.
