Honor and shame are important aspects to biblical culture, but the unbelieving Jews here choose to dishonor the Lord. What can we learn about honoring Him from this exchange?
Jesus himself is the way to God. It is important, then, that we know the person who speaks, grasp the identity he reveals as the Way, the Truth, and the Life, understand the hope he offers, and embrace the claim he makes.
Where is our satisfaction found in life? Where do we go to rejoice? There is no limit to the imagination when answering these questions. Even churches seem to have more than one answer. Yet whether it is the love of self or the love of vital theology concepts, the Bible says that all fall short compared to Jesus Christ. Jesus is the great lost love of the world. And in this series titled "Rejoicing in Christ" we will simply be spending time looking at him.

It's easy to get caught up with what's right in front of us. Some are smart enough to make that mostly work, but the view from above reveals all the problems in our thinking!
Jesus declares Himself to be the Light of the world while the Jews celebrate the feast with the lighting ceremony. Though His detractors push back, the darkness will never prevail over the light!
Every discourse in John has reference back to the Prologue. Let's consider it this amazing truth in 7 Heads:
1st - the Eternal Word, God with God, the Creator of all Things. (verses 1-5)
2nd - Witness to the Light. (verses 6-8)
3rd - The Light & the World (verses 9-11)
4th - The Gift of God (verses 12 & 13)
5th - The Word Become Flesh (verse 14)
6th - The Witness to the Word Become Flesh (verses 15-17)
7th - The Invisible God Seen (verse 18)
"My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father's hand. I and the Father are one." (John 10:29–30)
Prepositions can totally change the meaning of a thought. These are words that describe relationships between things, and in Col. 1:19-20 we see powerful prepositions (such as "in" Him and "through" Him) helping us understand Christ and His preeminence. In this sermon, Pastor Jesse walks us through these theology-packed verses and what they teach us about the deity and reconciling work of Christ. You'll understand more about who Christ is, what He's done, and what He will do - so that you can grow in knowing and worshiping Him.
