"John wants us to know that even when our heart condemns us, we can have hope, and friends, I need to hear this probably more than anyone else today because I stumble and fall often. And in those moments of deep frustration with myself by all I can say is, 'Well, here I am again Lord, just a poor gospel-abusing sinner. I'm not worthy to even say your name but I have nowhere else to go for hope,' and I pray with the Puritans of old, 'Blessed Jesus, let me find a place to hide in thy appeasing wounds. Though my sins rise to heaven thy merits soar above them. Isaiah's report of Messiah, in Isaiah 40:5, says that "The Glory of the LORD shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together." John comments that Christ was "… The true light, which gives light to every man coming into the world." (John 1:9) Yet John also says, "… The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it." (John 1:5) The diamonds of the glory of the Messiah are displayed on the black velvet of man's unbelief.

Because Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life, He alone can promise eternity in heaven and give eternal power for a disciple's life here on earth.

Because Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life, He alone can promise eternity in heaven and give eternal power for a disciple's life here on earth.

God's salvation is eternal. He has destroyed or otherwise eliminated our sins against Him.

While crosswalking with Kathleen at the corner of Pine and 46th, Vonita stopped for a Bible. Suffering severe pain from a recent surgery, Vonita was despondent. Vonita said she was trusting Jesus, but, in reality, she was trusting the things she did for Jesus. She also didn't believe a person could know how God determines who are the sheep and who are the goats.

Faithful Unto All Generations: Peter knew the experience of failure from his denial of Jesus. He knows the necessity of steadfastness, and in 1 Peter 1 he gives us the blueprint to steadfastness--giving all diligence to add the things listed in verses 5 through 7.

Though so simple in its language, the statement of Christ, "As the Father loved me, I also have loved you; abide in my love" (Jn 15:9), leaves our understanding stretched to breaking point. The statement speaks of love's marvellous measure, offers love's astounding assurance, and brings love's compelling command.

An encouragement of gifts, a rebuke of self-centredness and an assurance about the future.
