Philippians 2:4 says to look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. We've been talking about how to do that in the past couple episodes, but what if the other person's interests are sinful?

Abigail: A Woman of Wisdom1 Samuel 25:14-17,23-28,32-35The choices we make can put us on the path of wisdom or on the path of folly. One way leads to life while the other leads to death.Step in to keep a bad situation from getting worse.In 1 Samuel 25, we encounter three people: Nabal on the path of foolishness;Abigail on the path of wisdom; and David wavering between the two paths.In 1 Samuel 25, we will see how Abigail intervened in the life of David when he was headed toward foolishness and destruction. We will learn how God wants to use us to intervene in the lives of others.We must employ discernment and listen to the guidance of the Holy Spirit when deciding how to intervene.Abigail was intelligent or discerning.Abigail showed humility and respect. Abigail went in person to talk to David. David agreed with Abigail by crediting the Lord God of Israel as the One who prevented him from making a disastrous decision.Father, give us the wisdom and courage we need to step into harm's way to avert the consequences of poor decisions made by others.

Proverbs provides the wisdom we need to live a life that honors Christ. It tells us, 'A soft answer turns away wrath; but grievous words stir up anger." From this we learn that we are to answer, but that our answer should be tender, gentle, kindly and conciliatory. When we answer that way, it deflects anger but a harsh answer allows anger to flare up. We see many examples of this in the scripture including the prefect example, Christ who had no guile in his mouth when he bare our sins in his own body.

A lesson about Nabal & how he died

We are in this section of Paul's letter where he is instructing us to walk circumspectly and to redeem the time. In order for you, the Christian, to do this, he says that you must 1st of all – Not be unwise, but understand God's will is, he says in verse 17. Then, 2nd – You must not be drunk with wine which is dissipation, he says in verse 18a. And 3rd – You must be filled with the Spirit, he says in verse 18b. Following these instructions is not a thing that you automatically do perfectly when you first enter the Christian life. But you will by grace, grow in respect to your obedience and faithfulness to God as you understand and learn to do the will of the Lord. It is this concept that we want to understand better through this message.

In this message we will see the first time David spares Saul and then the account of David along with Nabal and Abigail.

David has been insulted and he has decided that he is not going to take that from this clown. Abigail is no fool and realized the grave danger they are all in. All the while Nabal is off doing his own thing. Which one of the three of these best reflects us when we lose our patience?

Generous for Glory (humbly standing in the gap with wise advice) Summer Series 2022 1 Samuel 25 Man Needs a New Heart When we look at both King Saul and King David we see that we can't do or we're not going to do what's right without without the leadership of God over our life. It's inevitable — man has to have a new heart. Now Saul had a new heart given to him also, the Spirit came upon him. But see, he didn't cultivate and nurture this work of God. So without cultivating and nurturing and remember you have to feed that what is the what we just looked at? Fools operate without God's leadership. Yesterday's victories can't substitute hearing a fresh word from God today. And that little bitty woman, that pretty woman, that wise woman, was able to squelch the fuse that was burning toward the dynamite in his heart. And because David was a man after God's own heart, you know what he did? He put the brakes on that locomotive, and shut her down, he stopped it. He stopped it. Don't let anyone drag you out of the will of God No one is worth getting out of the will of God for Yesterday's victories can't substitute hearing a fresh word from God today. The Kingmaker, Samuel, dies of old age, Nabal dies of a stroke, and David and Abigail get married. Abigail is a wonderful woman in the OT and a good example to us today. The Bible affirms the value of women in an ancient culture that did not affirm women. Session #8 Season #2
