Introduction
I: THE BEATITUDES IN GENERAL
We could define this blessedness “simply as fellowship with God, the experience of His covenant promise: ‘I will be your God and you will be my people.’ It means having a right relationship to God, and enjoying Him as we should.” Sinclair Ferguson
OT Beatitudes – Psalms 1 & 32
II: POVERTY OF SPIRIT MISUNDERSTOOD
Not material poverty
Not weakness or cowardice
Not a sense of worthlessness as a human being
III: POVERTY OF SPIRIT DEFINED
Jesus is talking about your spirit (1 Cor. 2:11)
It is how we view ourselves in relation to God.
IV: POVERTY OF SPIRIT REALIZED
We can’t make ourselves poor in spirit; it be revealed to us by God.
It must be cultivated
It results in great worth and blessing
