Children of God

In Romans 8, Paul has shown that the way that we overcome the natural tendency to sin is through the work of the Spirit in us. The Spirit, guaranteeing our resurrection, gives us reason to invest in spiritual things, not things of the earth. This is made more sure to us when we consider that our resurrection involves more than just a glorified body. It includes sonship come to its fullest expression. Here, Paul uses verses 14-16 to set his readers up for the next sections on the glory that awaits us. This glory comes to us only as children of God.
