Three prominent characters stand out in the parable: the bridegroom, the wise virgins, and the foolish virgins. The foolish live as if God is not around. They disregard the eternal for the temporal. They were not prepared for the bridegroom's arrival. The wise made adequate preparation. Yet all ten virgins slumbered and slept. The bridegroom came and they were all taken by surprise.
