Preparations to Avoid Confrontations

Having warned the church of his intention to come and practice church discipline (spiritual confrontations) as needed, Paul now commands that they take this opportunity to practice the discipline of self-examination, so that they might mature in the faith and avoid the unpleasantness of a harsh visit.
