Jesus, Man of Prayer & Preaching

57

Having had an exhausting previous day, Jesus rises up very early the next morning and goes to a desolate place to pray. Quality time to commune with his heavenly Father and intercede in prayer were such essential aspects of his ministry that he forewent needed sleep in order to do this. On the other hand, another crucial part of his Messianic ministry was preaching; i.e., declaring the good news of God's redemptive purpose being fulfilled in the person and work of the King of God's kingdom, that is, in himself. So he left the time of prayer and eagerly engaged in preaching the Word. Both these ministries are passed on to believers and especially to ministers of the Word as is clearly demonstrated in Acts 6:4, when "deacons" were appointed to free up the apostles to devote themselves to "prayer and the ministry of the Word."
