God's International Family through Adoption

573

We will focus in a little more on God’s promise to Abraham in Genesis12:3 … in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed. All those who have believed the promise are Abraham’s seed, children of God, and have been adopted by a loving Heavenly Father. Our passage today addresses the great doctrine of adoption in the Bible. It is the placing of a child into the family as a son. In the Old Testament, we get a glimpse of this in the life of Moses. Do you remember the story of Moses?
What a work of Providence! Pharaoh’s daughter adopted a son of the Hebrew women. This was a voluntary and costly choice by Pharaoh’s daughter. When we think of adoption, this is an expensive and extravagant act of love on behalf of the adopter.
We often focus on the blessings of the adopted. Have you ever known someone who adopted a child? There are many reasons which may motivate a family to adopt a child. I have heard of some who were unable to have children, some who wanted more children, or out of pity someone had compassion and adopted a child perhaps from a relative who was unable to care for a child. There are multitudes of reasons. I know many who have adopted children. They made a choice. They were willing to pay the price for life. They were willing to bring the child into their home, give the child their name, and make them an heir of their estate. Adoption reveals one of the richest gospel blessings from the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Today, let’s dive into Galatians 3:26-4:7 and discuss God’s International Family through Adoption.
