Gift of Eternal Life

The prayer of Jesus shows the blessing of the New Covenant summed up in the term eternal life which is a gift from God and is transformative for the Christian. Eternal life is not nirvana or simply mindlessness but Jesus himself is eternal life. The opposite of eternal life is destruction and condemnation because the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ. This is the believer's hope and Jesus is praying that his followers experience this life through the Holy Spirit and glorify God in all their circumstances.
