Be Subject to One Another
Series Ephesians
If humility was the prevailing attitude of Jesus' heart -- submission was the outworking action of His life. Listen to these saying of Jesus as He makes His intentions clear in three successive chapters of John:
Jesus said to them, 'My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to accomplish His work. (John 4:34)
'I can do nothing on My own initiative. As I hear, I judge; and My judgment is just, because I do not seek My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me. (John 5:30)
'For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me. (John 6:38)
It should be abundantly clear to us that Jesus--as our perfected model--desires us to submit to the will of God as revealed in Scripture in all facets of life. Submission to God's will in every area of life naturally flows out of a heart that has been tenderized by the Gospel. Submission only becomes difficult wherever pride reigns.
