John 3:16 is probably the most well-known, mis-understood and mis-applied text of scripture. It is NOT an affirmation of water baptism for regeneration. It is NOT a well-meant offer of salvation to all of humanity. It is NOT an affirmation of salvation conditioned upon man's exercise of faith. It is an affirmation and assurance TO THOSE WHO BELIEVE (present tense) that THAT THEY HAVE ETERNAL LIFE.
It is about the ASSURANCE of salvation, not the ACQUISITION of salvation.
