Series Survey of 1 Corinthians

Title: The Resurrection
Scripture: 1 Corinthians 15:20-28
Thesis: The Resurrection of Jesus triggered God’s Eschatological Plan
I – THE RESURRECTION FACT
The Resurrection was the activity of the Trinity
- The Father raised Jesus Acts 2:24, 32, 3:10, Ro 10:9,
- Jesus raised Himself John 10:17-18
- The Spirit raised Jesus Rom 1:4 & 8:11The Resurrection of Jesus already took place in the past, but its
effects remain forever
II – The Resurrection points to “Federal Theology”
Mankind is represented by two men: Adam and Jesus
The first Adam failed Romans 5:12
God sent a second representative: His own Son
I Corinthians 15 and Romans 5:12-21 are the best
theological treatises on Federal Theology.
Jesus kept every jot and tittle of the Law that we could not.
Jesus suffered the penalty and curse of the Law for sin. Galatians
3:13
Now represented in Christ (Federal Theology), we are justified
III – The Eschatological Order Triggered by Christ’s Resurrection vs. 23-28
Christ’s resurrection:
-last time
-of those who are Christ’s
-the consummation
What happens at the end?
The Son hands in the Kingdom
The Son is the representative of a new mankind
Jesus came to bind the strong man
verse 25 For He must reign until He has put all His enemies under His feet.
verse 26 The last enemy that will be abolished is death.
CONCLUSION
The Resurrection of Christ connects the dots of this otherwise purposeless and meaningless existence cf. 15:18
