Eyewitness Testimony of Christ's Glory

169

As his readers faced great persecution and Peter anticipated his own martyrdom he wrote encouragement and exhortation by way of reminders. Reminders to believers of what they know and the confidence they can have in what they have believed. God's word was, and continues to be, the source of true knowledge for all people. Attention is drawn to the confirmation of the truth of God's Word by means of eyewitness testimony. In particular, the eyewitness testimony of the apostles when they were given a revelation of Jesus Christ in His glory at the transfiguration. At this time, they also heard the declaration from God in heaven that this Jesus was indeed the 'beloved' Son of God with whom He was 'well-pleased.' This objective experience, Peter referred to as he reminded these believers of the majesty of Jesus Christ, the One in whom they were being persecuted for believing in.
