#10 Covenant Renewal

47

I want to consider how events such as rededication are used in our Christian walk. My "rededication to Jesus" event was important in the process of sanctification or a precious time of faith and repentance. It is not unusual for people to come to a place of hurting spiritually or where they've turned their back on God. For the sinner that battling sin, the answer is grace. In Joshua suffered failure and success before fully inheriting the Promised Land. But it is important to note that God reminds them of not a past relationship, or a past experience but a covenant relationship. God is reminding Israel that success is defined in terms of covenant faithfulness. That is why we need covenant renewal, and Israel needed a covenant renewal. Our first opportunity for covenant renewal is our own daily devotional or quiet times. Covenant renewals also happen weekly in corporate worship services. When you examine the elements of worship that God commands, we discover that these commands are part of covenant renewal: 1) God's call to worship Him; 2) The people of God acknowledge who God is through song, prayer, adoration or creeds; 3) Confession of sin; 4) assurance of pardon; 5) Reading of scripture; 6) obey God's word through preaching; 7)commune with God Sacrament of Communion; 8)we are sent into the world as peculiar people; and 9) we receive God's blessings on us through the Benediction.
Covenant renewal reminds us:

  1. that it is all of grace
  2. that we proceed in life by grace
  3. that we have a covenant mediator
