Being the Body of Christ

Paul uses the symbol of the human body to teach us about the relationship between Christ and the community of believers – His church. This symbol first of all tells us about the intimate relationship between Christ and the church. Whatever we do to the church and its members, we do to Christ. Second, it tells us of the importance of the church being connected to Christ. Third, Christ, as head, is preeminent about anyone and anything in the church. To be a healthy church that is growing the church needs to truly be the body of Christ.
