The Prodigal Son 3 of 7 (The Grounds Why He Came Home and His Prayer)

623

Though you think that you may know the story of the prodigal son, it is almost certain that you will learn much from listening to Rutherford's preaching on this portion of Scripture. Here the glory of God is contrasted with the sin and misery of wayward men -- while it is shown to be a part of God's glory to forgive the wicked and sinful, as they are granted repentance though His grace. False repentance is exposed; a glimpse of the state of those in hell is given; the mercy of God is exalted; heart holiness is promoted; and encouragement to pray big prayers is given. This sermon is read by elder Lyndon Dohms and taken from the book Quaint Sermons of Samuel Rutherford.
