Intro:
- background to Colosse and Colossian church: it was essentially unimportant but multicultural little town (Phrygians, Greeks, Jews, and some Romans).
- Paul prayed for a church he had not personally established and for people he did not personally know. What did he pray for them?
I. That they would be filled with the knowledge of God's will
- Knowledge of God's will equals a knowledge of Christ
II. That they might live lives worthy of the Lord
III. That they would be strengthened - to endure
- to be patient
IV. That they might give thanks joyfully - not because circumstances were necessarily easy, but because they knew they were rescued from the dominion of darkness
Conclusion:
- the point of Paul's praying: That they might me encouraged in heart and united in love.
