Servants of God p1

48

In this message, Pastor John begins the series on the early servants of God. As the early church grew, problems arose. The Apostles directed the people to choose seven trustworthy men, full of the Holy Ghost & wisdom who they could appoint over the day to day stuff. The Apostles wanted to spend their time praying & preaching. The people chose Steve and six other men & the Apostles 'ordained' them. Everything was going along very well until Steve pointed out the sin of the most religious people there. He called them lost sinners who refused to listen to the God they claimed to serve.
He told them they always resist the Holy Ghost. This was the sin of their ancestors. They were doing the same thing. He reminded them of their own guilt, because they betrayed and killed the Just One who we call Jesus. He told them their sin in not keeping the law, even though it had been delivered to them by God’s messengers. And it is written, “When they heard these things, they were cut to the heart, and they gnashed on him with their teeth.”
They were furious! They were the most religious people in that land! How dare he call them wicked, sinful people, full of iniquity? Steven was full of the Holy Ghost & gazed faithfully into heaven & saw the glory of God & Jesus standing on the right hand of God. Wow! He was in deep trouble, but instead of looking at this situation with human eyes, he saw with spiritual eyes. What would you do? Listen to learn. And, like Jesus, Steve gave his life for the truth. How many who call themselves followers of the Messiah today would do the same? Do you dare listen to this message? It might confront you. Or it might not. Listen to find out.
