An Inconvenient Fact

The disciples of Christ were the original skeptics of His resurrection because they did not understand the significance of this event. Their problem was that they had "hard heads." On the other hand, those who crucified Him knew it to be a fact - albeit an inconvenient fact that got in the way of their agenda. They had "hard hearts."

Like those of the first century who witnessed the resurrection, people today still respond in one of two ways to the fact of the resurrection: with a "hard head" or with a "hard heart."

Using the compelling imagery of the Titanic's sinking throughout his sermon to illustrate his points, Dr. Burkett argues that the kind of pride associated with the Titanic ("Not even God can sink her") and its tragic ending accompanies every hardened heart. But unlike the Titanic, the "ship of a hard heart" does not sink to the depths of the sea, but rather to the depths of a lake -- the Lake of Fire.
