Do Not Put Your Trust in Princes

244 ( 189 | 55 )

As we look from the vantage point of Scripture and, as evangelical people, bow to its analysis and exhortations, we look upon the political world with a mixture of sadness, pity, incredulity and at time, mild amusement. These are extraordinary times and, if we are observant, there is plenty to learn for the future, for our evangelism, for our pastoral work and much else besides. But the behaviour of many politicians, with their shallow sets of values, and bitter personal feuds and vendettas, proves to us the value of the exhortation of Psalm 146:3 'Do not put your trust in princes, nor in a son of man, in whom there is no help.'

Do we expect too much from our politicians?, lessons from Israel's history, consideration of some unlikely princes, a 'happy people', and finally is your hope secure?. These are some thought-provoking topics addressed in this sermon.
