Five Loaves, Two Fish

67

Have you ever been desperate? In many ways, desperation seems to be the cry of our culture. It was the same in the world of the apostles of Jesus. Thousands of people seeing amazing signs testifying of the transforming grace of God. Astonishing miracles happening before their eyes: sicknesses, blindness, paralysis, demon possessions … all resolved instantly, by Him. They were desperate for help, clamoring after Him, and all the while His disciples were straining to understand what He was teaching. In John 6, thousands needed fed; all his disciples could find was some kid's lunch: five loaves, two fish. Andrew said, " … but what are these for so many people?" Jn 6:9b Have you ever asked that question? "What good is what I have here in my hands? What can I offer? The need of this situation is beyond what I can provide." Maybe you've realized you can't fix a single thing. Maybe the situation you face seems impossible; maybe it's like thousands of people in need of truckloads of bread but all you have are five loaves, two fish. Maybe like the first century disciples, Jesus is teaching you right now. Maybe like all of us, you need to finally exercise the faith in God you've been called into. Maybe today, your greatest need is to exercise faith in God on purpose; as an act of your will.
