Our Duty to Cry Abba, Father!
Scriptures teach us that God has taken those who trust in Jesus to be His Sons, and He is our Father. This is a glorious truth too rich to fathom, that we who were enemies of God He has adopted to be His sons, and all by the grace that is through Jesus Christ!
These truths are driven home by a tragic incident now unfolding, in which two small children had a bad father who died, and they were adopted by a daddy who loves and cares for them. But their grandparents are envious of their new daddy, and sought to undermine the children's love for him, discouraging them from calling him Daddy and undermining his position as their daddy. The children's parents forbade the grandparents from contacting their children because of this, so the grandparents sued the mother and daddy, demanding visitation rights under a wicked Mississippi law.
How important for believers to love God as our Father, and to call Him by that name of affection which His love entitles Him to!
Christ commanded us to call God our Father.
Paul teaches us of the wonder of adoption. Adoption is an amazing thing, when a man who has no duty toward a child takes upon himself that duty out of love! That is what God has done for us!
Such a father deserves to be treated with love and affection and called Daddy. To refuse to do so is grievously offensive.
The Holy Ghost indwells all the saints and urges us to cry out Abba Father!
Those grandparents who undermine love for the children's daddy prove that they hate the children, for they seek to break down that intimate connection.
So too the devil hates our adoption by God. But we must rejoice over our Father and what grace He has given to us!
