Intro
Israel tries to save herself from judgment by allying w/Syria against Assyria & forcing Judah to join them. Godless king Ahaz of Judah calls Assyria for help. See 2Chr 28:19
Exposition: 3 messages for Judah, each starting with "hear" or "listen" (1:2, 3:1, 6:1)
Judgment is coming but I'll save a remnant (1-2)
a. Judgment announced upon Israel & Judah - weep, cities of Judah! (1)
b. Woe to corrupt rulers for their robbery & violence, who won't heed my prophets! (2:1-11)
Application: So many people have excuses, isn't it easier to repent?
c. But God will save a remnant & restore to them a King (2:12-13)
Further History: Assyria helps Judah; Israel finally fallsJudgment is coming but I'll save the world in the last days (3-5)
a. Woe to corrupt rulers for their injustice, who heed false prophets! (3)
b. But God will save the world & give them a King (4-5)
Further History: Hezekiah hears Micah's prophecy & leads Judah in repentance; see 2Chr 29:6-11Judgment is coming but I'll save the nations in the last days (6-7)
a. Woe to corrupt people for their injustice, who bring hypocritical offerings! (6-7:6)
Application: What does God really want? False worshipers offer the Lord everything but what he asks for: loving, trusting, obedient hearts.
b. God will save all nations & make them fear the LORD (4-5)
Further History: Hezekiah prays to the Lord for deliverance from Assyria (2Ki 19)
Application: What true repentance looks like, & how it saves!
Conclusion: Still saving lives 100 years later (Jer 26:18-19)
