As James VI began to break a away from the National Covenant, his beliefs evolved into blasphemies. James VI believed that the king of England had a higher authority than God and therefore instructed that all churches follow the Articles of Perth. As a result of this ordinance, men like Robert Bruce, John Welch, Robert Blair,Patrick Simpson, and others were exciled from Scotland and were percecuted for being confident in the Reformed Faith. These men knew what it meant to honor God in church and government and held the king to that standard which is Christ.
