Born in the Likeness of Men

106 ( 40 | 66 )

The hymn of Christ in Philippians 2:6-11 describes the incarnation as the Son's humiliation who, as the form of God, takes to Himself the form of a Servant, being born in the likeness of men. During Christ's earthly ministry, the form of God was veiled behind the form of a Servant. This is the understanding behind the KJV, "he made himself of no reputation." Christ was all God and all man but the glory of His deity was not apparent to the people. Though He was God incarnate, Christ resisted temptation as a man, trusting in the Father by the power of the Spirit. Beholding the glory of His humility should rid our hearts of selfish ambition and conceit.
