The Importance of the Genealogies

Although most of us have a tendency to skip over reading the long genealogies in the Bible, such as in the early chapters of 1st Chronicles, they have a crucial function in the inspired Scriptures because they anchor the sacred text in actual historical people and they demonstrate that the Messiah Jesus Christ was a flesh and blood descendant of King David and Abraham and Adam. Christianity is not founded on myths, as are some other world religions, but upon the biographical record of real people and real events. Since we ourselves are real people with real sins, we need a real human, yet divine Savior, to rescue us and forgive us, and only the Lord Jesus Christ of Nazareth, of all religious founders, meets this crucial requirement.
