Genesis 27:1-46

146

1 ¶ And it came to pass, that when Isaac was old, and his eyes were dim, so that he could not see, he called Esau his eldest son, and said to him, My son: and he said to him, Behold, here am I. “And it came to pass” opens many chapters in the Old Testament. If you are having trials and tribulations, remember “and it came to pass”. At this time Isaac is so old he can't see well.
2 And he said, Behold now, I am old, I know not the day of my death:
3 Now therefore take, I pray you, your weapons, your quiver and your bow, and go out to the field, and take me some venison;
4 And make me savory meat, such as I love, and bring it to me, that I may eat; that my soul may bless you before I die. Here Isaac is old, infirm, can't see, sitting in his tent. He's chosen one son over the other, chosen Esau over Jacob. Esau is a masculine man and Jacob is a wimpy intellectual. God told Isaac to give blessing to Jacob, but Isaac goes against what God said and chooses Esau.
5 And Rebekah heard when Isaac spoke to Esau his son. And Esau went to the field to hunt for venison, and to bring it. Mom is looking out for her favorite child. Isaac likes Esau better because he's a good hunter and provider, but Mom (Rebekah) prefers Jacob and she protects him.
6 ¶ And Rebekah spoke to Jacob her son, saying, Behold, I heard your father speak to Esau your brother, saying,
7 Bring me venison, and make me savory meat, that I may eat, and bless you before the LORD before my death. This blessing from the patriarch father had great meaning. It means there are two sons in this family, and at the death of the father they would divide the estate into 3 portions: 2 for Esau and 1 .....
