The Lord of the Covenants #2

113

Having established the importance and significance of the Divine covenants in Holy Scripture, the question remains: what is a Divine covenant? This message seeks to answer that question from numerous texts of Holy Scripture. At their heart the Divine covenants are binding oaths sworn by Almighty God. They are, to use O. Palmer Robertson's definition, "a bond in blood Sovereignly administered" by Almighty God. Yet it is imperative to understand that there is nothing cold or forensic about God's covenants. Scripture speaks of marriage as a covenant; the intimacy and liberties of that relationship are built upon the solemn oath sworn between a man and his wife. In like manner, being bound to God by His own covenant oath sealed in the blood of Christ is the basis or our rich communion and intimacy with our Lord.
