The Remnant: Israel's Past for God's Glory

INTRODUCTION:

Why have so many Jews failed to receive salvation? Sovereign election. Rom 9:11

Why have so many Jews failed to stand righteously before God? They sought it not by faith but by their own works through the law. Rom 9:32; 10:3

Though the plans & purposes of God come by His sovereign election, & though salvation comes completely by grace alone, every man is accountable to God to respond to His invitation to come to Him, as well as responsible to obey God's commands to repent & believe. Rom 10:21

I. THE REALITY OF ISRAEL
[v1] Have the Jews been rejected by God because the nation's leaders rejected Christ? No. Paul explains Israel's past inclusion by his own present inclusion. Acts 9:15

II. THE REMNANT IN ISRAEL
[vv2-4] Paul explains Israel's past inclusion by appealing to the principle of the Remnant. 1 Kings 19:1-18

III. THE RAMIFICATIONS FOR ISRAEL
[vv5-6] Paul expresses a consistency in God's dealings with His people; for that which was true in the past, is also true of the present. Mal 3:6; Heb 13:8
