When it comes to speaking about the devil, Peter knows whereof he speaks. It had been the devil's desire to have Peter in order to sift him as wheat. The result of that sifting experience was the near downfall of Peter. So when he calls on Christians to be sober and vigilant and to resist the devil, he gives advice that Christians do well to heed.
