Intro: The two-fold purpose of the day of rest

A. Exposition

1. The Sabbath was a sign for God's people to utterly cease from their own works.
2. The Sabbath was a regulation for God's people to order their service to God.

Application: How should the day be kept today?

B. The Reasons for keeping it

1. The Lord allowing us six days for our own employements.
2. The Lord intending us to bless our neighbor with it.
3. The Lord intending it to be a blessing to us.

Application: We find an earthly blessing if we seek a spiritual blessing in it.

Conclusion: Remember that you were slaves.
