SUMMONED TO MOUNT ZION, PART 5.
TEXT: Hebrews 12:18-29.
SUMMARY: In this passage, Paul uses the language of a journey and an arrival at a destination to admonish his hearers to make the right choice lest they fall into judgment.
I. MT. SINAI: THE LONG ROAD BEHIND THEM (vv. 18-21).
II. MT. ZION, THE GLORY ALL AROUND THEM (vv. 22-24).
A. Characteristics.
- The "place."
― "Mount Zion."
― "The city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem." - The inhabitants.
― "An innumerable company of angels" (v. 22).
― "The general assembly." (v. 23).
― The "church of the firstborn," (v.23).
― "whose names are registered in heaven."
― "To the spirits of just men made perfect" (v. 23). - The sovereign Ruler.
― "to Jesus the Mediator of the new covenant." - The means of entry.
― "to the blood of sprinkling that speaks better things than that of Abel."
