God's Defining of Salvation

Many religious people of different faiths and of divergent schools of theology all use the word of "salvation". But how many of these people ever give significant thought to what that word really means? Salvation can mean almost anything to carnal hearts and depraved minds but what does God say? What does the Bible declare about this subject?
