Aliens in America

As we celebrate Memorial Day and the many blessings God has given us here in America, we must remind ourselves that this is not our eternal home. The heroes of faith described in Hebrews 11 considered themselves aliens and foreigners in this world, pilgrims on a journey to a promised land. They recognized that their citizenship is in heaven, and so they were longing for a better country, whose architect and builder is God. Instead of belonging to this world, they were longing for heaven, and their longing made them better people in and for this world.
